About the artist:
Jarel "IllyRap" Worthington, the 6' 7' Kingston, New Yorker was encouraged by his family toexpress himself artistically. Jarel, his only brother, and his first cousin are all a part of "F.A.M.", standing for "Forever A Member". They have a long history in creating rap music together. In fact, thats where the name IllyRap derives from, making music with his relatives (Famillyrap). Jarel's parents also played a major role in his exposure to the culture, there were times where his father would play New York City's radio station 98.7 Kiss FM through a cable hook up in order to get reception. The reel to reel would be spinning and DJ Red Alert was on the one's and two's.
Inspired by the increasingly popular Hip Hop scene, IllyRap began to hone his beat boxing
skills to later become considered in contention with the Great Doug E. Fresh. Since that time,
he has taken his skills even further by venturing into other artistic expressions. Now it comes
just as easy as riding a bike. IllyRap is known in the city of Kingston as being one of the Illest
MC’s. IllyRap made his radio debut with “Stay Humble” on 96.1 Kiss FM. He received a web
page and bio from New York City's #1 radio station for Hip Hop and R&B: Hot 97 for being crowned their online Spit Fire contest winner. IllyRap was also recognized on 88.7FM, The Edge, as the caller who took over the air waves. When the radio station gave artists' time to do their thing on the weekends, IllyRap captured the listening audience with his lyrical skill. So well appreciated from the first weekend, according to the radio heads, listeners began to request that he come back and do more of his material. The radio station even made special arrangements for him the following weekends to take off the delay so that he could edit his own lyrics live on air. Most likely there were a lot of recordings made of these radio shows featuring IllyRap.
IllyRap positioned himself as a respected pillar to the local Rap community by giving away
promotional Cd’s and participating in Hip Hop events. Currently, IllyRap has started his own
label, IllyRap Recordings, and has a production/performance on the last track/outro for the major mixtape release, DJ Envy & Big Mike "My Space Massacre Volume 1". IllyRap Recordings
is in it's developmental stages, but still dabbles in writing and producing music for TV/film and
other visual media outlets. Joining together with family members, "F.A.M.", they plan to
independently establish themselves in the music industry.
